C. Rochelle's Mer-Mazing Book Awards Mini Interview

Updated: Feb 7, 2022

"Which of your characters do you relate the most to and why?"

"I usually relate more to the men in the harem than the FMC…probably because I’m exactly the type of ridiculous, filthy dog I’m known for writing! Oz from Wings of Darkness + Light, Tan from The Yaga’s Riders, and Bash from Come Out & Prey (although I sure hope I’m smarter than that dummy). I also think my current FMC - Leia from The 12 Hunks of Herculeia - reminds me a lot of myself, especially back when I was recovering from my first big “adult” breakup and finding myself again…but I’m still getting to know her."

"How do you celebrate your book releases?"

"I usually celebrate with a big party in C. Rochelle’s Little Sinners with my lovely readers and author friends! I’m sure you meant IRL with this question, but I don’t really do much to personally mark the occasion. I should probably do something for myself…I’ll take any suggestions as long as it doesn’t require putting on real pants!"

"What was the hardest scene for you to write?"

"There were a few scenes in The Yaga’s Riders that were just gut-wrenching to write. Tan heading into the woods after his fight with Asa in Rise of the Witch, that horrible cliffy in A Witch Out of Time, the scene between Nox and Vasi in Call of the Ride after the Tower… I love to tease about the emotional ruin I bring to my characters (and my readers), but in all honesty, I’m right there with them, feeling all the feels. These characters literally live in my head, so their pain is mine as well. But that’s the very thing that makes them so real and relatable to my readers, and I always put the broken pieces back together, so it’s worth it in the end."

"What do you love about being an author? Do you have any favorite memories since becoming one?"

"I’ve been writing in some form or another for as long as I can remember, but becoming an author - being able to share my characters and stories with the world - has been life-giving. My favorite memories come from my readers. When readers write heartfelt reviews, or comment on my social posts, or even DM or email me…it means the world to me. I spend so much time in my head with my characters…but when readers (real people!) love those characters just as much - the joy of that is indescribable."

"What is your favorite genre/trope to write? Are there any genres you plan to delve into in the future?"

"PNR RH with MM obviously! I’ve toyed with with contemporary and M/F ideas, and actually have a ménage coming soon, but paranormal reverse harem with MM/polyamory has my heart. I’m just such a proud weirdo and these genres are the perfect vehicle for all my wild and wonderful ideas. Oh, and of course I have a big fat Greek monster peen book coming out next (12 Hunks of Herc), and a short in an upcoming monster anthology called Into the Woods…so apparently I write monster romance now!"
